Companies worldwide are giving more and more options to minimize our energy consumption and carbon imprints. Many home products, such as light bulbs, shower heads, toilets, appliances just to name a few, now come with energy conscious features. The auto industry continues to create energy efficient vehicles to lessen harmful emissions.
The appliance industry has also worked to create more innovative energy efficient products. The electric clothes dryer likely uses more energy than any other appliances in the house. There are now ventless heat pump dryers which save about 15% energy consumption in comparison to vented dryers. Taking a little longer, these energy efficient dryers continue to provide great performance and save energy. Definitely a step in the right direction for energy efficient appliances.
So now that we’ve spoken about the most important change – energy efficiency – how do they actually work in layman’s terms for people like us who just want an appliance that does its job, saves us money on utility bills and has as little effect on the carbon footprint as possible?
I’ll use Whirlpool’s HybridCare™ True Ventless Heat Pump Dryer as an example.
The HybridCare™ dryer is ventless and uses a refrigeration system to dry and recycle the same air therefore it is cooler when drying. The only thing to be extra aware of is not opening the dryer during the cycle as the heat escapes. It then can’t be recycled making the drying process take longer.
Here are the benefits in short:
- ENERGY: Regenerates energy, reducing overall consumption.
- FABRIC CARE: Capability to use less heat than a vented dryer.
- VENTLESS DESIGN: This means there is more flexibility in where you can place it in your home.
According to Whirlpool this is their most efficient dryer so far, consuming 73% less energy with the Eco option. And it’s ENERGY STAR qualified!
